Patchwork Zip Pouch

A New Pattern for Playing with Fabric Scraps

There’s something especially satisfying about working with fabric scraps—something quietly resourceful about it. Using what you already have, rather than letting it go to waste. It feels connected to a long tradition of saving and repurposing fabric into quilts, and useful pieces.

The Patchwork Zip Pouch pattern grew out of that idea: a simple, enjoyable project designed for exploring patchwork and colour play using what you already have.

This pattern invites you to:

  • Mix and match your favourite fabric scraps
  • Experiment with colour, contrast, and layout
  • Add optional embroidery for extra detail

Pattern features:

  • Simple patchwork piecing
  • A clean zippered closure
  • Softly curved shape for a relaxed feel

It’s the kind of project you can sew in an afternoon, but also one you might come back to again and again—each time with a different set of fabrics, a different mood, a different result.

I’ve been making these using mostly cotton and linen pieces from past projects. The combination is endless and it really depends on what you feel like exploring.

If you enjoy patchwork, colour play, or simply the process of making something from what you already have, I think you’ll find this a satisfying sew.

Such a smart and creative way to use up scraps. I have a few different textiles to mix for a great tactile feel. The embroidery is lovely, adds that smidge of interest and I just learned some new Korean types of motifs. Can’t wait to get started!
